Dr Bhorat

We went to the appointment with Dr Bhorat today...he literally scanned my belly for about an hour and a half...and he kept saying “The baby looks perfect...can I just have one more look...” He said that he can see that my placenta had bled and that the baby had ingested blood which is probably why the Spinal Bifida test came back positive...he also said that my placenta didn’t look very good and that was causing growth restriction as the flow between the placenta and the baby was poor...he said that according to his measurements “Goog” was about 2 to 4 weeks behind in growth... Right at the end of the appointment he found a “cystic mass” which he could not determine whether it was attached to my placenta or my baby L He said I had to have an MRI in order for him to be able to have a proper look................

A Bouncing Baby Boy!

Today at our fourth scan, we found out that our little “Goog” was a little boy...we are thrilled...I am now 21 weeks and 4 days pregnant...Our baby boy weighs 319g now...at this appointment I just knew something was up...Dr Nagel was scanning my tummy much longer than usual...and he kept asking if I feel baby moving and kicking etc...then he told me that the Spinal Bifida test came back “slightly positive” (1/413)…he said he could not see anything wrong he suggested we go for another more advanced scan with Dr Bhorat (Umhlanga) – he said a part of him actually feels like he should tell us to leave it as he cannot see a problem with the baby...he said other than "Goog" a bit smaller than he should be at this point, as far as he could see, he looked perfect...

Number 3

Today we had our third scan...I am now 16 weeks and 6 days pregnant...“Goog” was 100mm crown to rump, heartbeat was 167bpm. I also had to go to have blood taken for a Spinal Bifida test...the doctor said he didn’t think it was actually necessary because all the other tests I had showed that I was quite a healthy person etc but we’d do the test because it’s just standard procedure and an extra precaution...

In A Crooked Little Town...

We (me, my husband and our “Goog” - as we now call our baby) went to watch Billy Talent at the Wavehouse, Gateway, it was freaking awesome!!! It has no relevance, just put that in for fun, he he...

Take Two

We went for our second scan today...Our baby is now 12.5 weeks old and is 57.4mm tall, was very active (at first was upside down and then flipped over and rolled around a few times during the scan)… We also heard the heartbeat = 175bpm… We were both happy…I had to go for a urine test and some blood tests....

First Doctor's Appointment

We had our first doctor’s appointment with Dr Theodore Nagel (Parklands), it was confirmed that there really was an amazing little creature growing in my belly! I was eight weeks and three days pregnant according to the scan. The baby was 16,8mm long and was due on the 29th of January 2011, my own late father’s birthday – I was elated...

It's positive!

Today we found out that we were expecting our first precious little baby! We were super excited, we had started trying as soon as we got married (19 January 2008), it had seemed like such a long wait for this news to finally arrive!
